Eldon R. Rene is currently working as an Associate Professor at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, The Netherlands. He obtained his University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) diploma from IHE Delft (The Netherlands) and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (India). Eldon’s broad research interests are related to the development of resilient ecotechnologies for wastewater treatment, resource recovery and water reuse, waste-gas treatment, eco-industrial parks, the development of waste to energy conversion technologies, and the use of artificial intelligence tools for environmental monitoring and environmental process control. Eldon’s publications database includes scholarly journal articles (~380), books (4), book chapters (~30), papers published in conference proceedings (~180), editorials (30), monographs (7), and edited conference proceedings (5). He is currently the Special Issue and Associate Editor in ET&I (Elsevier), JEE (ASCE), EQM (Wiley) and Bioresource Technology Reports (Elsevier). As a part of his educational and capacity building efforts, Eldon has taught scientific writing and skill development to more than 5800 MS and PhD students in major international events or workshops/conferences.

Objectives: The aim of this workshop is to provide the expected content structure and guidance on writing high impact research papers and review articles for publication in SCI and nature indexed journals. This workshop includes discussion and exercise sessions facilitated by Eldon Rene on Q1 journal requirements and on how to meet the editors and reviewers’ expectations. Besides, guidance on the basic ethics of scientific writing, SWOT analysis, reporting experimental data, peer discussions and hands on assistance in writing scientific papers will be the key aspects of this workshop.
This scientific writing and skill development workshop will help the participant to accomplish the following:
(1) Identify the novelty of the work and research gaps on the chosen research topic,
(2) Perform SWOT analysis, learn the importance of time management and follow a structured planning method for scientific writing,
(3) Organize and compose a scientific paper: title, abstract, keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussions, conclusions, acknowledgements, references, figures, tables, graphical abstract, research highlights, authors response file, etc,
(4) Analyse and write a systematic, error-free scientific article,
(5) Facilitate discussion(s) with other researchers (e.g., correction exercise and KAHOOT sessions).
